Members of the Twin City Cribbage Club (TCCC) are also members of a larger organization called The American Cribbage Congress (ACC). Our club is known as an ACC Grass Roots club. What does that mean? It means that all of the members of the TCCC can earn cash and prizes at both a local and a national level, very similar to local bowlers in a bowling league being member of the American Bowling Association. For more information on the American Cribbage Congress click on the link www.cribbage.org or on the Grass Roots program click www.accgrassroots.org.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to pay to be a member of the Twin City Cribbage Club?
A: You may participate in your first tournament for free before you are required to begin paying dues. Weekly dues are $3 but are only collected if you attend. You are not obligated to pay the weekly dues if you skip a week, or a month, or more.
Q: If I don't have to pay dues, do I have to pay for the ACC Membership?
A: Not during the Summer Season.
Q: What do I get for being a member of the ACC and Grass Roots Program?
A: If you choose to join the ACC, you will receive a membership card and monthly magazine subscription to Cribbage World magazine. For more information on Cribbage World, click www.cribbage.org/CribWorld. You will also be eligible to receive awards for outstanding play such as a 28, or 29, hand or a Grand Slam (nine wins on a tournament scorecard). You will also be eligible to earn points toward other nice prizes such as jackets, mantle clocks, watches, rings and more for earning as few as 1,000 Grass Roots Master Points.
Q: How do I earn Grass Roots Master Points?
A: Each week that you earn 12 points, or more, on your tournament scorecard you are awarded those points towards your lifetime Grass Roots Master Points total. The Grass Roots season, however, is between September 1 and May 31. Therefore, you will not be able to earn Grass Roots Points during the Summer 2010 season.
Q: Does the TCCC play Grass Roots tournaments all year long?
A: No. The Grass Roots Tournament year runs from September 1 through May 31 of the following year, but Grass Roots Points are only awarded for 36 weekly tournaments and two special events called the Grass Roots Regional Tournament and Grass Roots National Tournament. You may play with us for all the summer months without having to join the ACC Grass Roots program. The summer season is also a good time to practice.
Q: Are there prizes I can win without paying into the weekly tournament purse?
A: Yes. For the 12-13 weeks of the Summer season we keep a tally of our players performance and award prizes for the best averages for the season, very similar to a bowling league. Please click on the Club Stats tab to see the stats for our members for the Summer 2010 seasonr. We pay $35 for first place, $30 for second place and $25 for third place. We also pay $10 for the season's Best Scorecard and $10 for the season's Best Game. For a 28 Hand, 29 Hand, or a Grand Slam you are also awarded a cash prize and a pair of custom pegs plus a pin and award certificate.
Q: Does the ACC host other tournaments?
A: Yes. The Grass Roots program was developed to give local players a chance to compete in tournament-style play at a local level, but the ACC also runs "professional" tournament events throughout the year and throughout the United States. There are usually between 2-4 tournaments run every weekend someone across the country. Reno, Nevada hosts one of the largest events several times a year.
