NEWS (02/21/10) Our Skunk Bank got raided! No, not by a sticky fingered thief, but by Col. Smith and Keith Widener. Colonel Smith picked up a nice 24-crib (our first this year) and took half the bank (a nice $35.50). Keith Widener pulled out our first Grand Slam of the year and pocketed the rest (another $35.50). I am sure Keith he would have preferred that the Colonel had waited until next week to score his 24-crib. Remember, players, a 24-crib is worth half the Skunk Bank and getting a 28-Hand, 29-Hand or Grand Slam is worth the entire bank. Had the Colonel waited a week Keith would have gotten the whole bank ($71.00). It sure it a nice bonus when you hit it! NEWS (10/13/09) On 10/13 there were six games won/lost by one point and one scorecard was turned in with a total net spread of -1. Since we had an odd number of players, three extra games had to be played. The total Net Spread for all players for the entire night was, coincidentally, +1. Jean Seeman picked up our first Award of the 2010 calendar year by catching a 28-Hand on 02/16/10 picking up a nice little Skunk Bank and High Hand worth a tidy $23.00.
The Winter 2009-2010 season has completely with Colonel Smith picking up his THIRD 17-point scorecard in twelve weeks, putting him at the top of the Grass Roots standings and First Place* in the Winter season.

NEWS (01/26/10)
First news of the New Year!
Bill Medeiros spent three weeks in the hospital and is now home recovering. His three week absense has opened up a hole for a couple players to pass him in the standings. If he had had he way, we would have been playing Grass Roots cribbage in Forsyth Hospital in room 8434 the last three weeks. Bill received many calls, letters, cards and get-well wishes. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
Jean Seeman is only 14 points away from her Bronze Award with her posting of a 16 point scorecard on 01/26/10.
Colonel Smith's cards haven't cooled down any, either. With back to back weeks earning points he has taken a 28 point lead in the GRP Points standings over second place. With only 14 weeks and one Grass Roots National Tournament, even 28 points is no cushion, as has been attested in the TCCC's past. We shall see if he can hold on for his first GRP Club Champion title.
January's Cribbage World (click here) included a rebuttal to our one-point loss scorecard records. On page 26 is Grace Sydanmaa's GRP Scorecard with FOUR one-point losses on one card. We thought three was bad enough. Talk about a frustrating night!
NEWS (12/15/09)
Without even a week's rest, the Skunk Bank was again raided by our second 28-Hand of the season. Col. David "Bulldog" Smith caught that sweet hand and a 17 point scorecard, for first place, to boot. Unfortunately the Skunk Bank had been raided 3 times in the past 2 weeks leaving the Colonel only the $10 minimum. Still, with his 24-crib two weeks ago, this 28-Hand and a first place finish, it looks like the Colonel should have plenty of spending money for the holidays!
NEWS (12/08/09)
Only one week from our first Grand Slam and our first 24-Crib of the season, Bill Medeiros caught himself a nice 28-Hand! Unfortunately the hand, which usually fetches a tidy sum from the Skunk Bank, was only worth $10 (the minimum) since the bank was wiped out last week. Still, only twelve other players have held a 28-Hand since 2000; a rare hand, indeed.
Check out the December Cribbage World (or click here). Several TCCC member, and friends, are mentioned;
1. Keith Widener earned his Life Master (pg 12) and earned enough to make the All Regional (Eastern) Team (pg 13). He is also 10th in the ACC race for the East (pg 32).
2.New members Tony Hanson, Steve Polleys, Gwen Roye, and Keith Scobie were listed in the Welcome New Members page (pg 21).
3. Bill Medeiros is in the top 25 for Division I Grass Roots (pg 28).
4. Mike Morales earned his GRP Bronze Award last year (pg 28).
5. Chuck Dolge, Robert Reister and Gwen Roye are mentioned in the Grass Roots Corner (pg 29). I'll let you read that one.
NEWS (12/01/09)
We had several firsts on 12/01/09 besides the two firsts mentioned, above. The following players picked up their first Grass Roots Points for the year; Kathy Heslop, Steven Polleys, John Reister and our newest member, Kristine Parker. Congratulations to all. For Kathy, that means only 86 points away from her Bronze Award (1,000 points). Let's hope she can do it this year.
Does one point make a difference?
Only if it had been November 11th (11/11) could this have been any stranger.
In the 6,367 individual games of cribbage recorded with the
Out of curiosity, these stats were compared over the last 79 GRP events.

NEWS (09/29/09)
Did you hear the "Big Bang", last night? With a 12 points scorecard our current Grass Roots club champion, Mike Morales, got his Grass Roots Bronze Award. To those who don't know what that means, it means it took Mike at least 8 years to accumulate 1,000 Grass Roots points. Seemed like forever, I'm sure. Congratulations Mike!! Look out Reno, here's comes another player to the Tournament Of Champions. Next we need to keep an eye on Kathy and Jean who are both within striking distance of theirs (99 and 108 points needed, respectively).
It seems that our old, excuse me, seasoned players are not showing much of a fight against our newest players. Tony Hanson and Keith Scobie are making it look easy and making us (seasoned) players look awfully bad. In his first two events, Tony has taken one 1st place and one 3rd place. Keith, on the other hand, has taken a 2nd place and a 3rd place in two of his three initial events. Way to go!
On the flip side, however, our newest player Steve (last name withheld due to incriminating cards) was inaugurated into our new Skunkee Hall Of Fame (below) being walloped four times. Well, sometimes you have to take the bad news with the good; 4 skunks, hall of fame? You decide.

ROCK THE BLOCK

This is how you "Rock The Block", cribbage style. Thanks, again, to Chuck and Robert Reister for participating. See, we do have fun outside the Polo Park Rec Center even if it is a little damp. Hopefully, next year we'll be on flatter ground; the picture is not tilted, that's the way it was. Looking forward to next year.
NEWS (09/15/09)
Be prepared for the "Big Bang". No, I am not talking about the TV show. I am talking about sound you will her when our current Grass Roots club champion, Mike Morales, get his Grass Roots Bronze Award. With his 14 point scorecard earned on 09/15/09, Mike is only THREE little points away from his 1,000 point award. Yes, he has 997 points at this time. Let's hope it doesn't take until May!!
NEWS (09/09/09)

NEWS (09/01/09)
Our first Grass Roots event for the current Grass Roots year was held September 1, 2009 with 14 players in attendance. Three new players were indoctrinated (Marian Martin, Mitch Blanks and Brett Blanks). John Reister was presented a plaque for his 2nd place finish in the 2009 National Grass Roots Tournament, in May and our 28-Hand Award winners (Col. David Smith and Pat Whitaker) were presented their certificates from the ACC.
The August 2009 Cribbage World made mention of several club members and frequent visitors:

2. Congratulations to Chuck Dolge for his 29-Hand at the Veteran's Day Classic in Reno (and a cool $1,100) (page 16)
3. Congratulations to Beth Witter for getting her Master Rating (page 11)
4. Check out Keith Widener's heart wrenching match at the National Open Cribbage Tournament in Raleigh on page 10. What a way to lose a match!
